Pocket Watch Engraved - The Different Types Available
Pocket watches are made all across the world, with each designer putting a little bit of themselves into their design whilst generally following some tried and tested templates for pocket watch engraved design. Here is a brief description of the two different designs of pocket watch you can expect to find.
The first type of pocket watch is an ?open face watch?. Open face watches don?t have a spring-hinged lid or circular cover and so the crystal face of the watch is always showing. The winding stem is usually placed at 12:00 and the second sub dial of the watch at 6:00, though some watches have the winding stem at 3:00 and the second sub dial at 6:00 and are known as ?sidewinders?. Perhaps the slightly more popular type of engraved pocket watch is the ?hunter case watch?. In a hunter case watch, there is actually a circular lid which can be retracted from or placed over the watch face to protect it from dust build-up or unintentional scratching, as well as a buffer against potential problems such as the watch being dropped. Nowadays, hunter case watches tend to have the hinges for the lid at the 6:00 position while the stem, crown and brow are at the 12:00 position. Though both designs may not be commonplace any more, these timepieces are still classic and would make a fine addition to any wardrobe or mantelpiece. Whichever design you prefer, you can be assured that you if you are selecting them as engraved gifts for a special occasion, they will really stand out.
